What is a foreign wokrer levy?

I am looking for man power overseas for my company. I am aware that I do not need to pay for their Central Provident Funds but instead I have to pay for the foreign worker levy. What is a foreign worker levy and when do I need to pay for it? When does the payment for the levy officialy begin? What are the levy rates?

The Levy is a pricing mechanism to regulate the number of foreign workers in Singapore. The levy liability will start from the day the Temporary Work Permit or Work Permit is issued and ends when the permit is cancelled or expires. As an employer, you must pay a monthly levy for Work Permit holders. The levy you pay generally depends on the worker’s qualifications.and the number of Work Permit or S Pass holders hired.
